2007 SUMMER

Old News is Good News!

Because we at ARBOR have been busy this summer getting our new website ready, we decided to highlight some good news we were remiss in sharing last year.

ARBOR staff person Dan Woods received the prestigious Trieschman Award which is given annually to the child care worker who embodies dedication to children in residential treatment centers. Dr. Albert Trieschman founded the Walker School in Needham, MA, where Dan has been a contract employee for the past 12 years.

During his time at Walker, Dan has worked every possible shift in all six residential units as well as in the Walker School itself. He has been a constant resource to the other child care workers and coordinated and led Walker's annual chess tournament. As a testament to Dan's calm and respectful demeanor toward the children, there wasn't a single behavioral incident during the two-day tournament.

Dan believes that despite the severity of the issues faced by the children at Walker they can achieve amazing growth and outcomes. His constant, reassuring presence at Walker gives both the children and staff the help these children need emotionally and academically.

Dan told us that he was "particularly proud to uphold his ideals for the residential treatment of children." He was impressed by the sense of community at Walker and was "truly honored to represent the school in the greater community of childcare workers in residential treatment centers."

We at ARBOR salute Dan as a shining example of the quality and commitment of ARBOR staff.
